2K Sports, a leading manufacturer of action-sports video games, took a music-driven approach to Amped 3, their eagerly awaited snowboarding title. Besides thrilling snowboarding sequences, they wanted the largest, coolest in-game soundtrack of any video game ever.
Rumblefish supervised all of the music elements of the game, starting with a sonic identity profile to define the Amped 3 sound. We provided over half of the songs for the in-game soundtrack, as well as ten songs for the action sequences and in-game challenge scenes. Rumblefish’s music supervisors also cleared the theme track and reviewed music from other sources to complete the soundtrack.
Like defining a distinctive sound for a brand, defining the unique sound of Amped 3 was key to its success. The game debuted on the Xbox 360 platform to rave (music) reviews.
“2K Sports put a lot of time into selecting nothing but the best tracks to ride down the snow with.”–Jean Michael Barube, Gaming Excellence
Another leading video game publisher, Ubisoft, came to Rumblefish for ten perfect songs for their award-winning videogame America’s Army: Rise of a Soldier. The challenge was to find two song candidates written and recorded by a soldier.
After screening hundreds of submissions, we selected the lyrics and vocals of U.S. Army Corporal Orlando Lang, which we then recorded and mixed over backing tracks from our catalog. The song was a hit with Ubisoft, and it brought a level of authenticity to the game that it would not have had otherwise.
